About
Who Was Raisa Lizardi?
Raisa was a very special Hispanic woman who devoted much of her life reaching out to children and young adults, particularly to those in need. Raisa was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. In 2006, after graduating from Eastern University with a Master Degree in Secondary School Counseling, Raisa became a School Counselor at Nueva Esperanza Academy (NEA). She went to NEA with many dreams and a strong desire to make a positive impact in the lives of students. Raisa was prepared and committed to give all of herself to accomplish that end. But, shortly after, at the age of 24, Raisa died of stomach cancer, leaving behind many unfulfilled dreams and a passion for helping others. Raisa will not only be missed by her family, friends and co-workers, she will also be remembered by those she had the opportunity of lending a helping hand, of giving a piece of advice, of uttering some kind words, or of listening attentively without judgment; as Raisa always did.
What is Raisa’s Ray of Hope?
Raisa’s Ray of Hope is a non-profit organization established by Raisa’s family and friends in her memory. The organization aims to empower others to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young adults, just as Raisa did and wanted to continue doing. One of the ways the organization will accomplish its purpose is by granting an annual college scholarship to a deserving student who can demonstrate financial need.
What else?
In 2009, the organization made and delivered “Hope Baskets” to 15 children and young adults who have cancer. The baskets are intended to cheer and strengthen the cancer patients, and carry a message of hope.
