Welcome

Raisa was a very special Hispanic woman who devoted much of her life reaching out to needy children and young adults, including children who have Autism. Raisa was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Holy Family University with a degree in Psychology in 2004. In 2006, after graduting from Eastern University with a Master degree in Secondary School Counseling, Raisa becaome a School Counselor at Nueva Esperanza Academy (NEA). She went to NEA with many dreams and a strong desire to make a positive impact in the lives of students. Raisa was prepared and committed to give all of herself to accomplish that end; but, shortly after, at the age of 24, Raisa died of stomach cancer, leaving behind many unfulfilled dreams and a passion for helping others.

Raisa's Ray of Hope is a non-profit organization established by Raisa's friends and family in her memory. The organization aims to empower others to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young adults, just as Raisa did and wanted to continue doing. One of the ways the organization will accomplish its purpose by granting an annual $5,000.00 college scholarship. The annual Raisa's Ray of Hope Scholarship is given on the basis of need to a deserving high school student from Nueva Esperanza Academy. The student must plan to pursue a college education in the field of Human Services or Education, so that he/she can continue the work that Raisa did not have a chance to complete. The scholarship is unique in that, besides providing funds for tuition expenses every year, it offers the student emotional and academic support and guidance throughout the school years.

Besides granting scholarship funds, Raisa's Ray of Hope will engage in other annual projects to benefit children and thier families. In 2009, the organization made and delivered "Baskets of Hope" to 15 children and young adults who have cancer. The baskets are intended to cheer and strengthen the cancer patients, and will carry a message of hope.
